800GBASE-DR8 LPO (Linear-drive Pluggable Optics) OSFP PAM4 Optical Transceiver Module (SMF, 1310nm, 500m, Dual MTP/MPO-12 APC, DOM, IHS/Finned Top)

The 800GBASE-DR8 OSFP LPO (Linear-drive Pluggable Optics) optical transceiver module is designed for 800GBASE Ethernet throughput up to 500m link lengths over OS2 single-mode fibre (SMF) using a wavelength of 1310nm via dual MTP/MPO-12 APC connectors. This transceiver is compliant with CMIS 5.0, LPO MSA 1.0, and OSFP MSA standards. The built-in digital diagnostics monitoring (DDM) allows access to real-time operating parametres.
LPO transceivers eliminate traditional DSP/CDR ASICs by adopting a linear architecture with TX-side linear drivers and RX-side TIAs, reducing power consumption and latency with a streamlined signal path. They can withstand the maximum range of external operating conditions, including temperature, humidity, and EMI.
While keeping the pluggable design for flexible cabling and maintenance, they utilise a silicon photonics PIC for compact, high-speed, ultra-reliable connectivity. The 800G LPO transceivers deliver excellent performance in AI/ML systems and 800G switches that support linear-drive optics.
Note: "Finned-top" transceivers are now called "Integrated HeatSink" (IHS) as the cooling fins are integrated into the OSFP connector metal top. Commonly used in air-cooled switches. "Flat-top" transceivers are now called "Riding Heat Sink" (RHS) as the cooling fins ride on top of the network card or systems internal cages. This is used for both air-cooled and liquid-cooled applications for DGX, ConnectX-7, and BlueField-3 DPUS.

Features

High-Speed Performance with Low Power and Low Latency

LPO replaces traditional DSP with linear-drive chips, enabling high-speed, low-power, low-latency connectivity for data centres and AI networks.

  • Low Latency
No DSP delay ensures real-time, latency-critical performance
  • <8.5W
Lower power consumption reduces energy use and improves efficiency
  • Simplified design
Reduces cooling needs and improves reliability in large-scale operations

Understanding of LPO and DSP Module

DSP modules deliver reliable performance and interoperability for diverse applications, while LPO modules remove DSP circuitry to achieve lower power and latency, with interoperability relying more on host switch performance. Depending on actual deployment requirements, customers can flexibly choose between DSP and LPO modules.
